Restore and preserve attractive, healthy smiles with stunning porcelain crowns

As a boutique practice, Sky Dental takes great pride in developing close relationships with our patients in and around the Littleton and greater Jefferson and Arapahoe counties. Our experienced and talented dentists, Drs Cristiana and Flaviu Oltean, regularly assess the health of the teeth and gums. They can pinpoint potential problems before those conditions become worse. Our team also prevents tooth loss with prompt restorative care, such as porcelain crowns.

Dental crowns

Crowns or “caps” represent a restorative dental procedure. Other restorative procedures include dental fillings, inlays, onlays, and tooth replacements such as dental bridges, implants, and dentures. Following a thorough evaluation at our office, one of our dentists may recommend dental crowns as a way to preserve the natural tooth. Crowns may be appropriate for patients with:

  • Large or worn fillings
  • Damage that cannot be resolved properly with a big filling
  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Very poorly shaped or worn teeth
  • Badly decayed teeth
  • Following root canal therapy

The process

Crowns may be made from various materials, including metals and ceramics (such as porcelain) or a combination of ceramic fused with metal. Porcelain is coveted because it mimics the aesthetics and durability of natural, healthy teeth. Additionally, it is a safe and appropriate alternative for patients with sensitivities to metals.

Before a crown can be made and placed, the affected tooth is “prepared” and shaped to fit the permanent crown. Generally, a temporary or provisional crown is applied to protect the prepared tooth site while our skilled dental lab partners make the permanent crown. Once the crown is ready, the temporary is removed, and Drs Cristiana or Flaviu will check to see that the permanent looks and feels great before cementing it to the natural tooth.

Our crowns are built to last, and are easily maintained with  good oral hygiene and regular checkups at our office in Littleton. Regular cleanings and exams support proactive care and prevent irreparable damage from occurring, which can lead to tooth loss.
